The Maltese Association of Psychiatry attended the Conference: Mental Health. Health – Forward organised today 13 May 2024 by the Ministry for Health.
We reiterate our position and recommend full integration of Mental Health Services within all health services. Safeguarding of human rights, having a functioning clinical governance structure and consulting with service users and caregivers at all levels of strategy implementation are paramount.
Mount Carmel hospital must shut for mental health purposes and appropriate alternatives covering all levels of care and severity of mental health problems should be offered. Inter-ministerial collaboration is key for this to occur.
